The tallest building in Over-the-Rhine and the prime example of Art-Deco architecture and style, The American Building holds court over Central Parkway. Designed by local architect Joseph G Steinkamp in 1928, it sits 255' high, with 17 stories of luxury living.

Designed originally as an office structure it exhibits a series of terraced setbacks and geometric forms at the upper level and paired windows. When the building opened, newspapers advertised it as the first downtown office building to offer Air Conditioning!

Joseph G. Steinkamp was a descendant of Bernard Steinkamp, the builder of Old St, Mary's Church. Besides designing The American Building, Joseph also did the Mercantile Library Building on Walnut, just 6 blocks south.

In 2003 The American Building was acquired by Central Park Properties. They, in turn, hired Tilsley and Associates to redesign in the interior of this spectacular building to create 37 residential spaces and 3 sidewalk office spaces. The property now boasts a state-of-the-art fitness Center, Gathering Space for parties and TV and an enviable rooftop garden with grill and additional entertaining spaces. A lifestyle beyond your imagination - a complete and utterly sophisticated way to live in the heart of the City - walking distance to the markets, the arts, fine dining and sporting events.

Make The American Building your next home.
